The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity - Cycle C

“...he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:15)

The Sundays following the Easter season happen to be a slew  of big feast days, and today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

Today’s Gospel finds Jesus describing a few different levels of relationship that ultimately reveal to us that by his life, death, and resurrection, He has invited us into the life of the Trinity.

The Father has given all to Jesus, who returns it fully in his selfless act of love on the cross. From both of them flows the Holy Spirit, Who is sent and given to us, the one Who “will guide [us] to all truth.” In turn we are called to respond with faithfulness in being led by the Holy Spirit, strengthened in the truth to witness to God’s love and mercy, carrying out Christ’s mission in the world.

This all culminates in the reality of verse 15, when Jesus asserts that all that the Father has, is also Christ’s. It is from this truth that He declares to us that the Holy Spirit will give us all that Jesus has.

How often do I think about that truth? Have I even thought about that reality before? The reality that Jesus has opened to me the treasury of heaven in love. What a gift it is to have access to all that is Christ’s–a gift flowing from our identity as children of the Father, enabled to receive by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

I encourage you to take some time today to think about what that means for your life. Where do you find yourself in need of divine assistance? Call upon the Holy Trinity today, asking that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit will provide all that you need. Happy Solemnity!
