Mark 10:17-30
“For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.” (Mark 10:27)
So many things in our daily life can feel like a burden and a challenge. It is true that many things in life are a struggle, but how we see these struggles is more important than the fact that they exist. This week the Gospel provides us with the perspective of God when it comes to the seeming impossibility of not just things in life, but the most important aspect of life… our pursuit of eternal life with God. Jesus proclaims to you and me, just as He did 2000 years ago, that getting to heaven is impossible for humans on our own. While this can be a disheartening reality, and maybe uncomfortable to accept, He provides us with a greater hope than we could imagine. He makes it clear that what is impossible for humans is not impossible with God, for all things are possible with God.
Let us take heart this week in the reality of our littleness, as St. Thérèse of Lisieux did, and embrace the reality that it is exactly in our inability that Christ’s power is made manifest. It is precisely in those moments of trial and littleness that we are able to surrender in a deeper way and allow the Lord to carry us in our weakness. As we struggle and move on in life, let us remember that with God, all things are possible.
